What are Sprained Ankles?

Sprained ankles are the most common form of foot and ankle injury. Sprains occur due to over stretching and/or tearing of the ligaments in or near the ankle joint.

What are the causes of Ankle Injuries?

Ankle injuries can be caused whilst:

Overweight people can be prone to ankle injuries as the weight bearing joint is under more pressure. Ankle sprains can also be caused by a sudden sideways or twisting movement of the ankle beyond what is considered normal or by changing direction too quickly. The sudden movement causes the ligaments in the ankle to stretch and tear.
